Interior decor brand CORAL & TUSK from Brooklyn, New York, features story-like designs and hand-drawn embroidery. The collection is inspired by designer Stephanie Housley’s magical experiences, unique animals and the beauty of nature from her travels around the world.
The production process always starts with a sketch. While expanding her imagination on things such as ‘their personality, where they live and what they do’, Stephanie carefully sketches, and draws the stitches one by one using an embroidery software. All of this work is done by Stephanie herself. This is one of the reasons that the finished pieces have a hand-embroidered look. The embroidery files she creates are sent to a factory in India where they are embroidered, cut and sewn and sent to the brand’s warehouse in Wyoming ready for shipment. The team at their Brooklyn studio helps with the process of getting the finished products to stores and customers. Each Coral and Task product is filled with Stephanie’s vision and made by the hands of a trusted team.
The Spring Summer 2020 “Coastal Collection” was inspired by the designer’s lifelong love for the sea. The collection evokes the sound of waves and the warmth of the sun in which sea creatures appear. Whether it is a bear that protects a lighthouse, sea creatures enjoying their swims, a captain Beluga aboard its ship, or a sailor bear, the witty stories are reminiscent of dreams and adventures.
